Welcome to the Monday edition of our daily Virginia Trump campaign update! We will provide our readers with daily updates on the Trump Virginia campaign from today to November 3 (and after…if need be!).
It’s officially 22 days until the election on November 3 – and 19 days until early voting in Virginia closes. The deadline to register to vote in time for the 2020 election is TOMORROW, October 13.
The Commission on Presidential Debates reversed course and cancelled the second presidential debate originally scheduled for this Thursday. After President Trump came down with COVID-19, the commission decided the debate between the president and Joe Biden would be conducted virtually.
But President Trump made it very clear that he wouldn’t participate in a virtual debate. The president said he had been feeling better, and on Saturday the president’s doctor, Dr. Sean Conley, said Mr. Trump no longer posed a threat to transmit COVID-19 and cleared him to end his isolation.
The president’s website indicates Mr. Trump will be in Sanford, Florida tonight, Johnstown, Pennsylvania on Tuesday and Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday speaking at campaign rallies. President Trump appeared at his first public campaign event over the weekend at the White House.
In Virginia, the Team Trump campaign will make that last-ditch effort to get voters registered in time to participate in the 2020 election. If you haven’t registered to vote, and you are eligible, do not wait!
On Sunday, John Pence and Republican candidate for Congress Nick Freitas appeared at a campaign event in Culpeper.
Freitas is in a tightly-contested race against Democrat Abigail Spanberger for Virginia’s 7th Congressional District seat. Millions of dollars have been poured into both campaigns, a key race for Republicans in the commonwealth.
A Richmond Times-Dispatch article out Sunday indicated that while Spanberger has a sizeable lead in fundraising, Freitas outpaces Spanberger in spending by outsiders, including PACs. The Freitas campaign has channeled a lot of the same strategy the Trump campaign has, emphasizing in-person interactions and making phone calls.
